According to local legend, the northern part of this panchayat had relatively low population in earlier times, and the dense forest, meaning ghoravanam or kodumkadu, later became known as Kadangode. There is no doubt that Kadangode was once a hilly region with abundant wild animals.
Kadangode was the border of old Kochi and Malabar. It is also the present border between Thrissur and Palakkad districts.
Stone umbrellas, relics of Jain culture found here, are still being preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India.
The general topography of this panchayat consists of high plateaus, sloping areas, plains, and paddy fields. Paddy has been the main crop of this panchayat since ancient times.
